Welcome to the Working Introvert

Hi friends —

Navigating the corporate world is hard. You have processes to learn, new people to engage with, and 40-hour work weeks that always seem to last longer than they should. And while this is hard for everybody, it takes its toll on introverts in a different way.

As an introvert, I know how hard it can be to spent 40+ hours a week engaging with co-workers, clients, customers, and managers. I know what it feels like to be just a little bit different; a quiet, fly on the wall in meetings. And I know how hard it is to find the resources that you need in order to feel successful.

Enter: The Working Introvert. If you get energy from your thoughts, ideas, memories (basically your inner world), this blog is for you. If you like to do things alone or with 2-3 people you feel very comfortable with, this is for you. If you’re just starting out in your career, and you’re looking for ways to navigate what feels like an extroverted, corporate world — this blog is for you. If you want to know you’re not alone, this blog is for you.

I will use this space to share resources and personal anecdotes about my journey as an introvert in the corporate world. Things I did; things I wish I knew; resources I wish I had.

It may seem like an extrovert’s world, but we’re not just living in it. We make up more of the workforce than you might realize. It may be hard to tell because introversion can be unique to the individual, and let’s face it – we don’t always like to socialize.

So here’s to you, your career, and a built-in network of people you can choose to engage with on your terms. Take what you need — there’s no pressure here. In fact, there’s a homebody in all of us, and it’s time we embrace it.

And who knows, maybe, just maybe, introverts will rule the professional world. Now wouldn’t that be something?
